Study Abroad

While not required, studying abroad is highly encouraged because it can be one of the most transformative experiences of your life.
The Global Studies major is structured in a way that makes it relatively easy to integrate study abroad courses into the major.
Most GLBL majors study abroad during their junior year or the first semester of their senior year. During their first two years at SSU, GLBL students complete the major's foundational curriculum. That way, they establish a broad understanding of the world and, ideally, a head-start on their language studies before they go. During their year abroad, they take their "concentration electives," which allows them to tap into the topical and regional expertise of the University in which they study. Many students also do their internship while abroad. Then, when they return to SSU, they complete their their capstone courses and finish up any other outstanding requirements.

CSU-IP is sponsored by the California State University System. It offers many destinations throughout the world. Most programs last a year (highly recommended), but there are some semester-long options.

This option appeals to students who want to consider destinations that are not available through CSU-IP. As well, this is a good option for students looking for summer programs.
